    Party Marah: Torcon III

In 1995, Marah became involved with early efforts to organize a Toronto bid for the World Science Fiction Convention, and she joined the committee which later formed in 1997.

She was in charge of the parties subcommittee of the communications committee, which in 1998 was elevated to be a separate committee which included all aspects of the bid's presence at cons; she was voted to the bid executive each year. Marah has organized and run about twenty-five bid parties for Toronto in 2003 including very successful parties at LoneStarCon and Bucconeer. She also organized the Toronto in 2003 fan tables at those Worldcons and at numerous regional and local cons. Marah also worked at a couple of Chicago in 2000 bid parties and she helped promote Chicon 2000 to the Toronto fan community. She has attended six of the last seven Worldcons, including Con Jose, where she worked in the con office, the ops office, and as a rover. She ran a Torcon party. She also ran the After Hugos party, which was very well received. She has also written articles for Torcon III Progress Reports 2, 3, and 4. At the convention, she is running the Con Office, the Pre-Hugos Reception, and Opening Ceremonies.

Captain Marah: USS Hudson Bay (IDIC)

In the early 1990s she was in charge of events for the USS Hudson Bay, coordinating monthly volunteer activities, and in 1993 she was elected Captain (and president of I.D.I.C., the corporate entity), a post she held for four years. The USS Hudson Bay also volunteered at Creation events, so Marah has been in charge of security for quite a few familiar faces, including William Shatner, Brent Spiner, Tim Russ, Michael Dorn, Leonard Nimoy, Mira Furlan, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, and many others. She contributed a monthly column to "Voyageur", the newsletter of the club, which has three times won the Aurora Award for Best Fanzine. She currently throws room parties promoting the club at local cons such as Ad Astra and Toronto Trek.

Back in 1994, IDIC was asked to help out with the International Space Development Conference, held in Toronto that year. Marah assisted several of the major participants, including Apollo XI astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

Party Marah, Again: Seattle in '05

In the fall of 2002 she was recruited as the East Coast Representative for the Seattle in `05 NASFiC bid. So far she has run eleven bid parties. All have been well received, including garnering positive reviews in con newsletters and fannish publications, and winning the contest for "Best Food" at Confusion in 2003.

In 2001 Marah ran the con office at World Fantasy Con in Montreal. In 2002 she worked on publicity for Bloody Words, a mystery con held in Toronto that year. In 2003, she has worked Program Ops and supervised the con suite at Confusion in Detroit.

She will be running the con suite at Midwest Construction, and she is also helping in the con suite at Smofcon this year. In 2004, she has committed to running the Green Room at Confusion, and she will be helping with Exhibits at Noreascon. In 2005, she will be handling Preregistration at the Bloody Words mystery conference.

Marah Garibaldi: Security and Operations at Toronto Trek, Creation, etc.

In 1992, Marah first volunteered at Toronto Trek, working in security; after two years she became head of the department, managing two hundred volunteers at a convention with more than 3500 attendees, and the following year she managed guest security. In this capacity, she produced (and performed in) a training video for security volunteers which has been used by other organizations.

Marah volunteered to work registration at the 1994 International Space Development Conference in Toronto, where she was also quickly drafted to be chauffeur for Buzz Aldrin. Marah was head of security for CostumeCon in 1995. She has also volunteered at Primedia as a guest liaison for Spider and Jeanne Robinson.

    Chicago (and, maybe, Chicago?)

Marah also worked at a couple of Chicago in 2000 bid parties at LACon III, Ad Astra, and LoneStarCon, and she helped promote Chicon 2000 to the Toronto fan community. She has also joined the Chicago in `09 bid.

When Are We This Time, Ziggy? (Marah Online)

Marah has also been involved in online fandom. She got on Genie in 1991, and became a chat host for the Quantum Leap chat for several years. It was in the Quantum Leap chat room that Marah became friends with Tom Veal and Becky Thomson, chair and associate chair of Chicon 2000.

    Marah at Sea (Trek)

Marah's first exposure to science fiction events was at a Creation Convention in Buffalo in 1982. She got involved in real fandom in 1989 when she joined the USS Hudson Bay, a long-established media fan club in Toronto. She also went on a number of SeaTrek cruises in the late 1980s and early 1990s, where she became acquainted with some of the personalities of Star Trek.
